Cliff Jumping

Went up to Chantry Flats today for a little cliff jumping. Used to go all the time back in ITHACA. Nice to know I can still take the 40ft plunge to the water. Also, I had forgotten how much fun it was watching other people muster the strength to jump. There was this one guy today who was convinced he wasn’t gonna jump, but after a little trip behind a tree, he came back raring to go! He also came back with red puffy eyes…

There’s something horrifyingly entertaining about watching a stranger weigh his life on the edge of a cliff. Now it’s my philosophy, if you don’t jump in the first five minutes…you’re not gonna jump. This poor guy was up there two minutes when the heckling started. His friends were relentless, calling him names, questioning his sexuality, but after four minutes it didn’t seem like he was gonna jump. Finally I yelled 3,2,1 and got him to take the leap. It’s amazing how well that works with children and/or baked individuals. He made it safe a sound, down and out of the water. In fact, jumping was probably a lot safer then him trying to shimmy back down the rocks…he was not acute.

I think what I’m saying is that if he can do it, you can do it! And once you get through the fear and paralyses thing (which is probably there for a good reason) it’s a lot of fun!!!
